As Maine’s first cotton mill and one of the earliest in the U.S., the Brunswick manufactory harnessed Pejepscot Falls’ water power to operate 5,120 spindles with 900 workers by 1855, producing 35,840–51,200 yards of sheeting, shirting, drill cloth, and cotton duck daily for regional and national markets..
