Hill Manufacturing Company was a mid-20th-century industrial facility specializing in wooden and disposable products, including tongue depressors, ice cream sticks, coffee stirrers, and craft sticks. The plant combined traditional woodworking machinery with injection molding equipment and assembly lines to produce wooden, plastic, and metal components for food, medical, and industrial markets. Hundreds of workers operated saws, presses, and finishing tools in regimented shifts, contributing to the local economy and supporting families across Somerset County. The building’s long, brick façade and multi-story windows exemplify functional industrial design intended to maximize light and workflow. The photograph emphasizes the factory’s architectural presence while hinting at the repetitive labor and industrious energy contained within.
