In 1923, Youngstown Sheet & Tube acquired the Brier Hill Steel Company, formerly known as the Brier Hill Iron & Coal Works. This acquisition led to the establishment of YS&T's Brier Hill Works, which underwent significant upgrades, including the installation of Bessemer furnaces that enhanced production capacity. The blast furnaces were named Grace and Jeannette, with Jeannette—affectionately called "Jenny"—gaining notoriety in Bruce Springsteen's song "Youngstown," where he sings, "My sweet Jenny I'm sinking down, way down in Youngstown." The facility also boasted 12 open-hearth furnaces, two expansive blooming mills, and three additional finishing mills.
